ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

HELP YOUR NATURAL BEAUTY LAST

What are Botulinum Toxin Injections, commonly referred to as "botox"?

Botulinum Toxin type A is a naturally occurring, purified protein that when injected into face or neck muscles helps them relax.

As a result, lines and wrinkles become much less visible, and the entire face looks rested and rejuvenated. Brands of Botulinum toxin type A are Botox®, Vistabel®, Dysport®, Azzalure® and Xeomin® and Bocouture®.

What happens as we age

and how do we get more and more wrinkles?

MUSCLES
Repetitive movement creates lines at rest in the frown area, forehead, crow's feet, around the mouth, chin and lower face.

SKIN
Our skin becomes dry and dehydrated, loses elasticity resulting in lines and wrinkles in the frown area, forehead, crow's feet around the mouth, chin and lower face.

how does botox works? it causes muscles to relax

"The science behind". How exactly does Botulinum toxin work?

Neurons in our body release Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that activates muscles causing them to contract. Botulinum Toxin injected into a muscle, blocks the release of acetylcholine and allows this particular muscles to relax. Reduced muscle movement makes your face look smoother, rested, refreshed and younger.

The rejuvenating properties of "botox" were first discovered by a doctor who injected Botulinum toxin to stop unwanted facial tics. He then noticed that it also minimised the appearance of wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin treatment areas:

1. Forehead lines - horizontal lines across the forehead that make us look older. We can smooth away these lines using Botulinum Toxin injections. If the forehead lines are very deep, they can be further reduced by use of a very fine dermal filler.

2. Glabella or Frown lines - vertical lines between the eyebrows that become more prominent with age. They can be smoothed away with anti-ageing botulinum toxin injections.

If the frown lines are very deep, they can be further reduced by use of a very fine dermal filler.

6. Wrinkled neck - regardless of

how well we look after our neck

and decolletage the horizontal and vertical lines will appear as we age. Anti-ageing injections can be used

to effectively smoothen these lines away and restore a more youthful look.

3. Crow's feet - lines at the outer corners of the eyes. They are more prominent when we smile and become more visible as we get older.

4. Heavy eyes - Botulinum Toxin injections can be used to open the eye area and reduce the look of hooded eyes. â€‹

5. Smokers lines - small vertical lines around our lips. They tend to be more visible with age regardless of whether or not we smoke. The anti-ageing injections help reduce the appearance of these lines bringing the definition back to our lips area.

7. Gummy smile - a gummy smile is when a large gum area above your upper teeth is visible when smiling. Using botulinum toxin injections we can lower the upper lip slightly so your smile becomes "less gummy" while your face still looks natural.

8. Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) - Botulinum Toxin injections are very effective in treating excessive sweating. Find out more about Excessive Sweating treatment.

Make sure you are in good hands.

It is essential that the professional injecting Botulinum toxin is qualified to do so, has appropriate training and a proven track record. It is best to look for a healthcare professional who knows face, head & neck anatomy and physiology (such as e.g. a dentist) and a specialised cosmetic injection training.

Is it safe?

Botulinum toxin injections have long been used by medical professionals to treat some medical conditions like migraines, depression, facial spasms (dystonia), excessive sweating or to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In a purified form Botulinum toxin  (as in case of many other medications like, e.g., Penicillin) is a very safe and effective treatment.

Botulinum toxin is prescription only medicine and can only be prescribed by doctors, dentists, nurses with the prescribing qualification and following a face to face consultation.

Are there any side effects?

Like all medical treatments, Botulinum toxin may cause side effects, however, any reactions are minimal and temporary. Most are related to the injection itself rather than the product. These include little redness or swelling around the place of injection, little bruising, temporary headaches.

During your initial consultation, Dr Kamil will explain all possible side effects. They are also listed in a Patient Information Leaflet you will receive during your treatment. Please contact us if you'd like to receive your Patient Information Leaflet now and we will be more than happy to send it to you.

When will I see the benefits and how long will they last?

The effects start to be visible within 2-4 days after the treatment, and you'll wait for about 2 weeks for the full effects to be seen. The effects last up to 5 months. The speed of action and lasting will depend on the strength of your muscles and the area treated.

Although the effects are not permanent, the lack of muscle movement between treatments prevents new wrinkles creation. When used regularly injections can have the preventative effect and can delay the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Over the time you may also need repeated treatment less frequently.

Will anyone notice that I had "botox" done?

Will I still look natural?

When it comes to Botulinum toxin injections, Dr Kamil takes a ‘less is more’ approach and always aims for a very natural look. During your free initial consultation, Dr Kamil will talk to you about your individual requirements.

He will examine your face and neck muscles and recommend a treatment that is fully tailored to your needs. Your face will be refreshed, lines and wrinkles smoothened but you will look natural, and your face will remain expressive.

The "frozen face effect" appears when the injections are done incorrectly.

It is most often result of using a bad technique and "a one-size-fits-all template". Everyone is different and every face is different. A trained and qualified medical professional should be able to recommend the treatment customised to your unique face giving you a very natural look.

If you are concerned about how natural your face will look after the treatment you may consider starting with a "Baby Botox".

Treatment Overview

Free Facial Aesthetics Consultation

During your free Facial Aesthetics Consultation, Dr Kamil will talk to you about your concerns and expectations. He will review your medical history, assess if you are suitable for botox treatment and will answer all questions you may have. As everyone is different, he will have a closer look at your face and neck muscles to see how they work. If Botox is right for you, he will recommend a treatment tailored to your specific needs.

Treatment day

On the day of your treatment, your make up needs to be removed, and your skin will be cleaned and disinfected.

A small amount of Botulinum Toxin will be injected into the muscles where the treatment is needed. Most patients do not feel any pain, but Dr Kamil may apply a local anaesthetic cream to ease any discomfort you may feel. The treatment session will last around 15 minutes, and there is no downtime after the treatment meaning you can return to your usual daily activities right away.

After the treatment

Dr Kamil will tell you about how to look after your skin and what to avoid following the treatment but you will also find the tips and guidance below.

The effects are usually visible after 2-4 days, and it takes about 2 weeks for the full effect of Botulinum Toxin to appear. Your rejuvenated look will last for up to 5 months.

Dr Kamil will schedule a complimentary review appointment taking place 2-3 weeks after the treatment. This appointment is to make sure you're happy with the results and that everything is as it should be. This is when small adjustments (top-ups) can be made if needed.

If you decide you'd like to maintain your results you'll need to have another treatment once your muscles movement recovers. Repeating the treatment will provide optimal effects and may decrease the frequency of treatments needed over the time. If however, you decide not to repeat your treatment, your skin and muscles will return to their pre-treatment state.
